The Village of Zeballos has the best tap water in British Columbia, according to judges at the fourth annual “Best of the Best” Tap Water Taste Test on May 30.

This means that Zeballos beat three samples the District of Hope’s water, from east Kawkawa Lake, Silver Creek and in town, and six others.

The other six were Big White Water Utility, Capital Regional District (Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands, City of Penticton, City of Port Alberni, Clearbrook Waterworks District and SunDorn Estates.

Spokesperson Kristen Learned said they do not release the ranking of each individual sample other than the winner. She added that Zeballos tied with another water sample and won out in the second round of tasting with the two samples.

Hosted at BC Water & Waste Association’s annual conference in Victoria, a panel of selected “aqualiers” sampled and evaluated water based on appearance, aroma, taste, mouth feel, aftertaste, and overall impression.

Last year, judges of this competition picked the District of Hope’s water as the best in B.C. and Yukon, beating 13 other competitors.
