This Saturday, remember the phrase “out with the old, in with the new.”

The annual Trash to Treasure event will happen from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The event asks residents to put out their unwanted items at the curb so that someone could prove that one person’s trash is another’s treasure. Residents could also roam around town to pick up items that they would like.

“The idea this year — we want to make sure people put out two to three items in front of your house that’s still good stuff but you’re not using, want to get rid of it,” said organizer Victor Smith, who represents Communities in Bloom. “That way it helps somebody else, saves the landfill and just makes a better town spirit here.”

Apartment dwellers can also put their items outside their apartments, labelling them “T2T.”

Residents must remove their items by 4 p.m., although Smith said usually nothing is left.

In the seven years where this event has happened, Smith said furniture that is in good shape tends to go quickly as do sporting goods. Smith said he has also picked up antiques that he really enjoyed.

“I like some antiques. People put out some nice stuff and then we recirculate it, right?” said Smith.
