Property taxes too high

Once again, property taxes. The town of Hope sees the assessment and rubs their hands in glee. Time to fleece the flock.

We don’t mind paying taxes but a 20-plus per cent increase is hard to swallow when one is on a fixed income. Outfits like ICBC, Fortis and BC Hydro apply for rate increases but they don’t get away with 20-plus rate increases. The mayor and council need a reality check.

Spend tax dollars on infrastructure, not special feel-good projects. Sixth Avenue might be a good place to start.

(The writer of the letter added that his assessment went up by 40 per cent, and while the District of Hope has dropped the mill rate, he said it does not help him at all. He added that he is paying 22 per cent more than before, or over $400 more. He lives in Silver Creek.)
