Station House money could be rellocated

[The Station House project] is getting ridiculous!

Does Council think this is Victoria, Hollywood Hills or Monaco? What are we trying to prove here? That we’re a rich little town? We are not and it’s time council attempts to operate in a thriftier manner.

Pouring any more money into the Station House rat hole is foolishness. This white elephant is squatting on provincial government land, and, if the Province decides they need it, for whatever reason, our little burg will be hard pressed to recover one red cent of these extravagant expenditures. Burn it up, or tear it down! (Apologies to all the volunteers who have contributed so much time and money but, enough already).

The main priority of council this year is to address the state of our streets, many of which need major repair and re-surfacing. The amount of money estimated to “fix” the Station House would go a long, long way towards doing this. Sixth Avenue is a disgrace, and many others are not much better.

Property owners are to expect a two per cent (or more) tax increase due to the increased assessments. Why not take this opportunity to lower the mill rate, and give us all a break?

Where does it say that property taxes need to go up every year?

If we do have to have the two per cent increase, let’s spend it on something that will benefit everyone who lives here, not just a select few.
