No one injured in semi-truck fire near Flood Hope Road

Nine firefighters and four fire trucks on scene for fire

It was a long night for the Hope Fire Department after a semi-truck caught on fire on Highway 1 near Flood Hope Road.

Nine firefighters, and four fire trucks — along with additional emergency services that included BC Ambulance Service, Hope RCMP, and BC Highway Patrol — were on scene late Monday night (Dec. 4) after a semi-truck became fully engulfed, with the fire spreading to both the trailer and its content.

The driver was rescued from the truck and suffered no injuries.

“Owing to the unknown cargo, the fire presented a heightened degree of volatility towards our suppression efforts, necessitating the need for extreme caution for the rest of the night,” said Deputy Fire Chief Joshua Westcott. “This was the third fire call in less than 12 hours for our exceptional volunteer firefighters. Their dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety of the community remains unparalleled.”

Both westbound lanes remained closed until the fire was under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
