District of Hope: Council candidate Q&A

John Duff

Q1: What experience do you have that makes you suited to be a councillor for the District of Hope?

Involved with the Hope Ratepayers for four years and the chair for three; attended and filmed all council meetings for four years; resident of Hope for almost 15 years.

Q2: What are the two most pressing issues facing the district? How do you plan to address them? (be specific)

Housing and Employment: The two are connected. The need for reasonable rents and housing is the key. We must work with businesses and developers for fair wages and accommodation to fit the community needs.

Q3: Many residents of Hope struggle with availability and affordability of housing and basic necessities. This is compounded by a job market with many low-paying jobs and many residents living on fixed incomes. If elected, what will you do to make Hope a place where people can live, work and play comfortably?

Our town is currently centered on tourism with a large base of fixed-income families and seniors. I will support reasonably priced, family-oriented housing options; encourage businesses that offer a livable wage and year-round work and promote more community-based events and projects.

Q4: How do you plan to listen to and communicate with residents of Hope if you are elected? (be specific)

I will continue to talk to people, businesses and local groups to find answers and encourage all to be involved in the discussions and process.
