Update: 11:08 a.m.

It was a busy Sunday night (Aug. 13) for the Hope Fire Department after a tractor trailer caught on fire on Highway 3.

Nine firefighters were on scene, at around 10:02 p.m. near exit 173, to find the tractor fully engulfed in flames with the fire extending into the trailer and “into the grass on both sides of the highway.”

According to residents of Hope, a loud banging sound could be heard that night — allegedly caused by the tractor’s tires exploding.

“The fire was quickly knocked down and no injuries were reported,” said Hope Fire Chief Thomas Cameron. “It was cleared at approximately 11:50 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown however, it is not considered suspicious at this time.”
