A male and a female in their 20s from Chilliwack are facing charges after being arrested by RCMP for an alleged online dating robbery.
Alexis Kasey Nicole Neill, 25, and Kyle James Wall, 27 each face one charge of robbery after the incident last week.
The charges stem from a call received by the Chilliwack RCMP on April 5 around 4:30 p.m. to report a person had been robbed at knifepoint while visiting an apartment in the 9400-block of Cook Street.
Officers arrived at the address where their investigation led them to evidence linking an online dating site and a pair of individuals to the robbery.
The suspects were quickly located and taken into custody by police.
Neill and Wall each made their first court appearance on April 6. Wall remains in custody while Neill was released, but she was scheduled in court on April 10 and did not show up, so a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
Wall is next scheduled in court April 12.
“RCMP caution that everyone you meet on-line may not be who they represent themselves to be,” Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said. “Use discretion when going out on those first dates.”
RCMP online dating tips:
· Make first dates in a public place.
· Tell a friend about your date plans.
· Drive to the date and home by yourself.
· Stay sober.
Both Neill and Wall have had several contacts with the criminal justice system in recent months.
Neill faces one count of theft under $5,000 for an alleged incident on Nov. 26, 2017 in Abbotsford. She is due in Abbotsford provincial court on April 23 to face that charge.
And Wall has two other files currently in the system. He is charged with assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000 for an alleged incident on March 5. He was on bail on that charge, but is now in custody after the alleged online dating robbery. An application to officially revoke his bail is scheduled for his next appearance on April 12.
An application to revoke his bail will be further bolstered by another file that includes: making harassing communication on Jan. 11; uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm on Jan. 12; and three counts of mischief under $5,000 from Jan. 20, Feb. 4 and Feb. 12.
