John Weidenbacher, 77, passed away peacefully at Royal Columbian Hospital on May 25, 2016.

John was born to Hans and Mary Weidenbacher in Ontario on May 17, 1939, but grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After high school, he began a long career in the newspaper printing business starting with a job at the Winnipeg Free Press. John spent time with a Colorado Springs newspaper and 18 years with Pacific Press in Vancouver.

John and his family lived in Coquitlam, BC and Maple Ridge, BC, before he retired in 1998. After retirement, he became very active in the church and with community charities like Meals on Wheels. After settling in Hope, BC, he continued to graciously donate his time to his church, Care Transit and Hope Community Services, amongst others.


John is survived by Delaura, his wife of 55 years; his son Kurt (Rosanna), daughter Cara (Dean), grandchildren Caleb, Christopher and Hayley, and his brother Rudy (Joanne) and dozens of relatives in Winnipeg and Germany.


In accordance with John's wishes, there will be no public service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation at Healthcare Centre, 330 East Columbian St., New Westminster, BC, V3L 3W7 or call 604-520-4438.
