As the new president of the Hope and District Chamber of Commerce, Lloyd Forman wants to wish everyone happiness in 2017.
He also believes that the way to a better future lies in taking a look at what residents would like Hope to be in five to 10 years, and leave personal loyalties and personalities aside if it impedes that vision, “and we might just see a different picture.”
“Lets try something unique. We are all riding in the same boat, to the same ultimate destination,” said Forman in an email. “So lets pretend we are all connected, or a part of the same team.”
Forman elaborates that Hope residents and organizations should see themselves as a “team of Hope” and recognize that everyone has a similar goal to bring Hope forward.
He said he has observed that personal agendas get in the way of the common good.
“In 2017, let us communicate better ways of recognizing and using all of the skill sets on the team,” said Forman.
Forman said Hope also needs to have a conversation about how government can fulfill their basic functions while taking less money from their constituents.
He said this will encourage people to invest in jobs and still be able to retain enough income to prevent bankruptcy.
“As president of the Chamber with a very strong board, I would like to see us focus on discussions with all three levels of government to consider that the average voter is competent enough to efficiently spend their own money,” said Forman.
Forman elaborated that governments also has a strong effect in attracting businesses by fostering a conducive environment.
This year, Forman specifically wants to sit down with AdvantageHOPE to establish an understanding.
“We’ve accepted different parts of the game to play but we’re all playing the same game,” said Forman. “And we should be working in a coordinated effort.”
