Closed until end of Feb., ice fishing was possible on Kawkawa this year due to extended freeze

Ice fishing is only allowed after Fe. 28, but by then it’s typically too dangerous

Here is Hope resident, Slav Heller, fishing on Kawkawa Lake, Saturday. The late freeze offered a rare opportunity to ice fish on the lake, as it is closed to fishing in the winter, till Feb 28 — after which the ice is usually gone or unsafe. Heller was using raw shrimp and caught several land-lo cked coho (not kokanee), which he released. Barry Stewart photo
