Brigade Days Q&A with Crystal Peters and schedule

Brigade Days starts on Friday and finishes on Sunday. Brigade Days spokesperson Crystal Peters shared the reasons why participants should be excited in a question-and-answer format.

Hope Standard: What are some of the new things that would excite people?

Crystal Peters: This year we added an event called “jump your junk” on Friday night, where you can bring any motor vehicle, jump it over the table top into the Sports Bowl and best distance wins! It should be very entertaining.

We also added mini-stock, live music in the Beer Gardens and an Outdoor Market to our Friday night which has free gate admission sponsored by Star FM. On Saturday and Sunday, we have a new event called Cone Zone it is an interactive free event for all ages and its purpose is to teach the importance of road safety. We also brought back our Briggie Raffle this year — someone’s chance to take home $5,000, tickets are $10 each and will be on sale from the Brigade Days tent.

HS: Who are the bands playing this year?

CP: This year we have a few different music events! Robert Rowan and friends are playing a country music concert Friday night on the Envision stage in the Beer Gardens. Powder Blues and Sweeney Todd featuring Nick Gilder will be taking the big stage Saturday night in the Sports Bowl. Live local bands will also be performing after the Saturday concert in the Beer Gardens.

HS: Why did the Brigade Days committee decide against fireworks this year?

CP: This was the hardest decision by far to make for the committee, we were holding off till last minute before the deadline to get the fireworks ordered, in hopes for some rain, but Mother Nature had other plans. It was discussed with the District of Hope and the Hope Fire Department that it was in our best interests to not put our community in the slightest risk for a forest fire. The show will be dearly missed this year but we hope a lot of people will understand and support our decision.

HS: How much is entry? Any adjustments to the ticket structure?

CP: There was no change to ticket structure this year, we did run pre-sale prices longer for locals to purchase early and save $5 on each wristband. The wristband prices are always a touchy subject for many people, but the prices are the way they are in order to support the expenses to put on this event for our community.

HS: Why did you call Saturday “two-wheel Saturday” and Sunday “four-wheel?”

CP: We added those to the title of the days to emphasize some of the main events. Saturday, we have the second annual Briggie-X endurocross competition. Sunday, we have the 4X4 races and the crowd favourite demolition derbies! This year we have 3 derbies — mini-van derby, truck derby and a car derby.
