A local campaign is hoping to warm hearts and bring thanks to frontline heroes in Chilliwack, Agassiz and Hope.

Chilliwack Division of Family Practice has launched its Hearts Campaign just in time for Valentine’s Day, and now they want folks to write down messages of appreciation on hearts and share them on social media.

“What we’ve so appreciated from this community over the past year is the fact that they’ve been so supportive,” said Katrina Bepple, executive director with Chilliwack Division of Family Practice.

“They’ve really been following Dr. Bonnie Henry’s guidelines and as a result we’ve been able to keep the numbers down in our community.”

Chilliwack Division of Family Practice is a society that supports local family physicians and nurse practitioners in Chilliwack, Agassiz, Seabird Island and Hope, and they’re asking the people in those communities to take part in the campaign.

A lot of people have been praising healthcare workers for their hard work during the pandemic, but Bepple says others need to be thanked, too.

“What we wanted to do was acknowledge that it’s actually the community,” she said, such as grocery store employees, city workers and staff who clean the hospital.

Now is the chance for people to again show their appreciation for all the essential workers in the community with the Hearts Campaign.

Folks are invited to write a message or draw a picture on paper hearts, cut them out, and put them in their window. Then, take a picture of them and share the hearts on social media using the hashtag #HeartsInTheValley.

The hearts can be found inside the Friday, Feb. 12, 2021 print editions of The Chilliwack Progress, The Agassiz-Harrison Observer and The Hope Standard.

People can also download and print out the Hearts Campaign poster at divisionsbc.ca/chilliwack, or simply make their own hearts at home.

Back at the beginning of the pandemic, people would bang pots and pans at 7 p.m. every day and put paper hearts in their windows to show their support for frontline workers.

“It’s almost a year in and people are tired. This is really a time when people can use gratitude and thanks,” Bepple said.
