One of Chilliwack's most popular free family events will take to the skies this weekend.
Chilliwack Flight Fest returns to the Chilliwack Airport on Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18. The ticketed Flight Fest Hangar Party and Dance, which takes place Saturday evening, helps fund the free event on Sunday.
Billed as Canada's longest-running free airshow, Flight Fest began in 1992. Now marking its 29th year, people will see both in-air performances as well as aircraft and other displays on the tarmac, a kids' zone, and more.
This year's featured high-flying acts include Yellow Thunder, the Erickson Aircraft Collection, Mike Tryggvason, Brad Wursten and Ross Granley.
On Sunday, the gates for Chilliwack Flight Fest open at 11 a.m. and the aerobatic performers take to the skies at 1 p.m.
Saturday night's ticketed hangar dance will give people a chance to mingle with fellow aviation enthusiasts, while dancing in the hangar to music by band The Exchange. The night also includes a DJ, food trucks, a bar, and an exclusive nighttime airshow.
The dance is at Firkus Aircraft Inc. (46206 Airport Rd.) and tickets are $20 in advance and available at OK Tire, Tourism Chilliwack, and Firkus Aircraft; or $25 at the door. Advance tickets are also available online for $20 plus service charge at eventbrite.ca/e/flight-fest-hangar-party-dance-2024-tickets-891051598317. The dance is a 19+ event.
