Residents and visitors to Harrison Hot Springs will soon know what to call the village’s synthetic outdoor skating rink.

Today (Monday, Dec. 2), Harrison will be unveiling the name for the skating rink at a grand opening taking place at 4 p.m. The name was chosen through a public contest back in October, after council agreed the residents of Harrison were much more creative than council members.

Although the official grand opening is taking place this afternoon — and will be attended by Lisa Beare, minister of tourism, and Jason Lum, chair of the FVRD board, as well as the Mission Figure Skating Club — the rink has been open for public use since Nov. 23.

The Lights by the Lake opening saw skaters try out the synthetic surface for the first time, and the public has been busy sliding across the plastic surface in their ice skates since.

The rink will be open for free public use every day between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. until Feb. 29. The concession, where visitors can rent skates and helmets, will be open Thursday to Sunday 2 p.m. and 9 p.m, as well as all holidays except Christmas Day.
