Hilbert Corbett sure doesn’t boast about his accomplishments, in fact a fellow Hope Rotary Club member told The Hope Standard he barely wanted to celebrate his 50 years as a Rotarian.

But celebrate he did, surrounded by community members at a private event at 293 Wallace Restaurant Thursday, July 12.

“Everyday he’s calm, he’s cool, he’s got a great family, he’s got a great life. He’s not loud and abrasive. He’s just one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met. I’m so proud of him,” said Hondo Stroyan, president of the Hope Rotary Club.

Stroyan said he’s learned from Corbett how to be a better community member, adding it is difficult to list off all the projects and initiatives Corbett has been involved with in his 50 years with the organization.

“He’s been a part of every project the Rotary Club has had in town, since 1968,” he said. From the move of Station House, to Rotary Park, to the many donations to the community he has made through his businesses.

“He’s quiet and gentle, but wise and forthright. And his wisdom helps carry us through,” Stroyan said.
