Hey, photographers! Hope and Area Volunteer Program (HAVP) is launching a photo contest, Volunteers: Gems of Hope and Area, for volunteers and volunteer-driven organizations in Hope and Area.

The contest is meant to provide an opportunity to visually showcase volunteers giving back and creating social impact in their communities.

“The contest is a fun way for others to see what community volunteers are up to, and acknowledge the impact they have on building vibrant communities,” said Lisa Sehn, HAVP’s Community Volunteer Coordinator.

The contest is open to volunteers of all ages, and organizations who provide volunteer opportunities in Hope and surrounding communities, including Indigenous communities, the Fraser Canyon and Sunshine Valley.

Hope and Area Volunteer Program (HAVP), Funded by Fraser Health, is an initiative striving to build community connectedness, prevent isolation, and improve health outcomes through volunteer and intergenerational activities.

For example, summer 2019 activities included Tunisian Crocheting, Rock Painting, and a Volunteer Appreciation Ice Cream Social (today, August 15, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Read Right Society, 895D 3rd Ave.).

Activities are multigenerational and give opportunity for volunteers to share their gifts and talent with others.

HAVP, located at Read Right Society, also has a Community Volunteer Job Board showing current volunteer opportunities throughout Hope and Area.

People are encouraged to stop in, meet Lisa, and learn more about getting connected through community volunteerism.

Volunteers: Gems of Hope contest winners will be featured on the cover of HAVP’s up and coming Community Volunteer Handbook in Fall 2019.

The handbook is a resource tool for organizations to support and manage their volunteer programs specific to Hope and Area demographics, community needs, and trends. Community Volunteer Handbook will be free to volunteer-driven organizations.
