Residents will notice things done a little bit differently at the Hope recreation centre starting Monday, as the switch is made to a new system allowing people to register and pay for programs, renew memberships and book facilities online.

Registration was previously done via telephone or by coming in to the recreation centre. Now, all programs including the popular swim programs and summer activities can be booked online through the recreation centre’s website.

Payment online is via credit card only. Fitness classes will continue as drop-in classes, they cannot be reserved online.

Those visiting the recreation centre will notice some small changes as the system is changed over, they will need to get a new pass and have a new photo taken on their next visit. Previous bookings and memberships will be transferred over to the new system.

The change is all about giving the recreation centre a new way of communicating with residents, who can now search online for different courses and see explanations of each before choosing to purchase. People can search by keyword, age, day, time, location and other fields.

“With this new registration system, you will be able to go view programs from the convenience of your home. You can go online at any time of the day to register for a program, make a payment, manage a personal profile,” stated Dennis Adamson, chair of the Recreation, Culture and Airpark Services Commission.

The recreation centre wants to encourage people to sign up online, anyone who does so by July 13 is entered to win a one-year facility pass.
