Hope Secondary school is home to a new welcome post.

Fraser-Cascade School District superintendent Balan Moorthy attended the installation ceremony along with local First Nations dignitaries.

Welcome posts or figures are a part of First Nations traditions across the province and beyond. They are typically installed at a doorway as a way of welcoming visitors to their land or territory.

“Honoured to be part of the Welcoming Post Installation Ceremony at Hope Secondary on Pink Shirt Day,” Moorthy wrote in a tweet. “We continue to move forward in our understanding of Indigenous History and Truth and Reconciliation.
