This year’s Remembrance Day wreath ceremony in Hope will be a little smaller than usual, but it will go ahead.
There are currently limits in the Eastern Fraser Valley on the size of gatherings, and so it will be kept to 50 attendees at the cenotaph. Because of this, and to allow veterans and officials to take part, the public is being asked respectfully to not participate.
“As there will be no parade, spectators are discouraged from attending, due to the limited space and the requirement to physically distance,” a letter from the Hope Legion states.
The only wreaths that will be laid at the ceremony, on the cenotaph, will be from officials, including the MLA, Mayor, Metis Society, military units, RCMP and the Legion itself.
However, others may place wreaths on the cenotaph before 10:45 a.m. that day, and after the ceremony.
This year marks 100 years of the poppy, and the Legion is encouraging everyone to purchase a poppy at their boxes throughout the town.
Donations to the Hope Legion help support local veterans and the programs supported by the Legion.
There is also a current membership drive on Canada wide. Veterans’ family members can join the Legion for free for a year.
