Bike to Work Week may be ending, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away your bicycle: the nation-wide Community Better Challenge gets underway tomorrow, and the week-long BC Commuter Challenge kicks off on Sunday.

Organized by ParticpACTION, the Community Better Challenge runs from May 31 to June 16, afterwhich Canada’s most active community (on a per capita basis) will be crowned and given $150,000.

To participate, just download the app on either the App Store or Google Play and start logging your activity, counting everything that gets your heartbeat up.

Then, from June 2 til 8, the BC Commuter Challenge gets underway in all participating communities, cities, municipalities, and towns along the coast and across the province. The aim of the Challenge is to encourage places of employment to figure out sustainable ways for their employees to commute to work through a friendly, engaging competition.

Workplaces and individuals can sign up for BC Commuter Challenge at CommuterChallengeBC.ca, and once registered, participants log their commutes to see their direct influence on the environment.

“The benefits for the workplace is a healthy way to challenge and engage each other and all the while doing something good for the planet,” said Stuart Lew, BC Commuter Challenge provincial coordinator.

And if that wasn’t good enough reason, Lew adds there are 67 participation prizes to be won with a value of over $15,000.

So get out there and get active.
