Kilby painting festival wraps up with award-winning art

Kilby Historic Site hosted 26 painters over the three day festival

Kilby’s fifth annual Plein Air Festival finished up Sunday (Aug. 18) with thousands in prizes for the artists who created their work over the weekend.

The Plein Air Festival saw 26 different painters stationed throughout the historic site from Aug. 16 to 18, working on artwork based on scenery around the grounds. Artists immortalized still lives, heritage buildings, gardens and farm animals on their canvases over the weekend.

On Sunday, the festival ended in a gala revealing the grand prize winner and the People’s Choice winner.

This year, the grand prize (an overnight stay and breakfast at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort) went to Vancouver artist Stephanie Agg, for her painting of two heritage buildings.

The People’s Choice prize (an overnight stay at the Harrison Beach Hotel) was chosen by visitors at the historic site on the Sunday, and went to Surrey’s Carla Maskall.

All other participants at the festival also received prizes for their work, and finished artwork was on sale throughout the day Sunday.
