The November backroom show features Robbie Weir and her15-year-old granddaughter, Raquel Marchiel from Salmon Arm.

Robbie is a self-taught artist who refines her skills in the acrylics class at the Hope Art Machine. She paints mainly animals and landscapes but the occasional truck and motorcycle pop up. Not surprising, as she is a Harley biker.

Raquel is a major horsewoman. Her achievements at the 2018 BC High School Rodeo Finals qualified her for both the Canadian High School Finals in Merritt and the National High School finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming. In the winter, she loves snowboarding with her family. She presents an eclectic variety of subjects. Grandma said she “always had a pencil in her hand” and has taken high school art and photography classes.

The title of the show, “Some R&R Time” originally referred to Robbie and Raquel but it is also a reminder to viewers to get some rest and relaxation; take time to smell the roses.

Please join us at the Hope Arts Gallery, 349 Fort St., for the opening and reception on Sat., Nov 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet the artists and enjoy refreshments.

The exhibit runs from Nov. 1 to 28; the gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is operated by Hope and District Arts Council and run by volunteers.
