RCMP are hosting a town hall meeting on Tuesday at the rec centre.

Local leaders of the RCMP will host a town hall meeting on Tuesday between 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m at the Conference Room of the Hope and District Recreation Centre.

The RCMP invites all residents to speak with Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment Superintendent Deanne Burleigh and Hope RCMP detachment commander Staff Sgt. Karol Rehdner to craft this year’s vision for policing.

“We’re going to discuss with the citizens of Hope … where they would like to focus the policing efforts, or where they should like to see the policing efforts be focused upon for the coming year,” said Rehdner. “We develop what we call … an ‘annual performance plan,’ it lays out the groundwork in a global sense.”

Rehdner said that plan will develop a direction for policing, such as traffic safety, but won’t focus on specific offences and crimes such as people rolling through stop signs.

“We encourage people to show up,” said Rehdner.

Rehdner said this is his first time hosting a town hall meeting, and this will be a yearly process as policing circumstances might change yearly.
