The Grinch may be famous for stealing Christmas, but he’s stealing hearts in downtown Hope.
He is the newest creation by chainsaw carver Ryan Villiers, and he will be spending his holidays on Wallace Street from now on. He was placed there in late November and was a hit at the Hope for the Holidays tree lighting ceremony.
The Grinch, along with his dog Max, is installed in the Rambo carving’s usual spot near the District of Hope in Memorial Park. Rambo is now in storage for the holidays, and the two will be swapped out seasonally. Villiers, a favourite at the Hope Chainsaw Carving festival every other year, also created the Rambo statue.
While the Grinch was originally created by Dr. Suess, the character on display in downtown Hope is inspired by the Jim Carrey movie version. Many residents and tourists alike have been entertained by the carving, stopping to snap a holiday picture.
