‘The magic comes from inside of us’: Hope seniors share holiday messages

We asked residents of Hope’s seniors homes to write to us this season, they answered in droves

The Elders in our community are the pillars, they are those who built this community and made it what it is, yet their voices are often not heard in media or public discourse. This year has hit seniors and residents of care homes particularly hard, so on this holiday we want to honour them and have them to speak directly to us, to share whatever they like. Here are their messages:

From the Fraser Hope Lodge…

I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year! That’s it – I am a short & sweet kinda guy.

Don Gibson

I hope they all have a nice Christmas. We are all low on energy and need a recharge. Get recharged and help each other in 2021.

Irene Loan-Johnston

Hope is a very special place. It’s a place where we care for each other. More & more young families are settling here and I’m sure they’ll never regret it. On behalf of me and my family we wish you peace, tolerance & blessings to all.

Barb Sharrers

I would like to wish all the people of Hope a very Merry Christmas and all the best in 2021!

Betty Dzogan

Wishing all of you a good Christmas and nothing short of a great 2021.

Charles Lakerveld

Wish all my family, friends and the people in Hope area a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Andy Hope

Oh my goodness, 2020 has been a bit of a crappy year – let’s hope 2021 is much better! A Christmas shoutout to my children!

Tina Morrison

Family is #1 and Church. Spend time with your children; do things with them and keep them close. I feel blessed to be here. Take my advice – take time off from work. There is so much to see and do and share with your family…make memories for your later years.

Emil Lange

Wishes for a good holiday season to the people of the township. When this season comes around we just want good for everyone, you know? A very Merry Christmas to ALL!

Bob Gandy

To the wonderful people of Hope: extending wishes to each of you for a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New year. I did not think 2020 would be good but it has been. I hope 2021 holds pleasant surprises for us too! I remain every grateful for living in such a small town with a big heart!

Penelope Billinghurst

Oh my – it is going to be 2021! Well, I wish the whole world and not just Hope, a very Merry Christmas! Hope is a beautiful spot, so good to see it thriving and doing well – and really that is my wish for everyone in 2021! A personal wish to each person reading this for a very special year.

Ruth Clark

Wish everyone a merry, happy and wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Daisy Araki

Merry Christmas to Hope! I like this town and the people here. I have not thought about 2021 yet – I am squeezing everything I can out of 2020, but we can’t all be the same! I wish everyone all the best in 2021!

Carrie Montgomery

There is no place better than Hope and the lodge here. The people and staff are so kind and gentle. Everyone is just unbelievable. You ask and you get! I wish the people of Hope the best – health wise and otherwise! Luck does play a part. Wishing 2021 is a lucky year for all!

Sylvia Haroldson

I am 96 years young. Not much I can do for myself anymore but the staff are great and if I ask for help they give it. Just like the people of Hope – they rise to the occasion. Remember in 2021, to have a friend you must be one. The magic comes from inside of us – we must let it out!

Elly Pratt

And from Park Street Manor…

Missing my Mom who recently passed. Lots of good memories.

Looking forward to calls from family and to a world that isn’t locked down.

Will miss family get-togethers because that is what really matters, hoping for a better 2021. To all of my family, Merry Christmas.

Truly appreciate the ‘community’ feeling of Hope where Seniors are appreciated. Learning how to live independent and looking forward to a healthy and Happy New Year.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Will miss seeing family this year but hopeful for a better 2021.
