Fall is in full swing. The leaves are changing, the days are getting shorter and cranberries are rising to the top of the bog.

According to the B.C. Cranberry Marketing Association, most cranberries are harvested between September and November. The most common practice is to flood the beds were cranberry vines grow to create cranberry bogs, where they are then harvested using a specialized machine. Newly planted cranberry bogs can take up to five years to achieve full bearing.

Within the province, there are more than 6,500 acres (2,630 hectares) of cranberry bogs, most of which are on the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.
