Award-winning young pianist to perform by-donation concert in Chilliwack

A talented, young pianist who has played around the world and has won international awards is coming to Chilliwack.

Hamilton Lau will be performing at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on April 12 as part of the B.C. tour of the Young Artist Series, presented by the Chilliwack branch of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers' Association. Admission is by donation.

Born and raised in Vancouver, he began his piano studies at the age of four, and he currently studies with Corey Hamm at the University of British Columbia.

When he was 20 years old, Lau was named as one of the '30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30' by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in the summer of 2023.

He has performed concertos with the Chilliwack Symphony Orchestra, the UBC Symphony Orchestra, and the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. In addition to performing locally, Lau has played across Canada, the U.S. and Europe, and recently played a solo recital at the Fazioli Concert Hall in Sacile, Italy. 

Lau has achieved awards from numerous competitions at the international, national, provincial, and local level. He won the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers’ Association Provincial Piano Competition in 2024, the UBC Concerto Competition in 2022, the Canadian Music Competition in 2021 and 2019, and the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival in 2022 and 2018, to name a few.

Hamilton Lau is at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre on April 12 at 7 p.m. A reception will follow. Admission is by donation. For more, go to hamiltonlaupiano.com.
