Brigade Days kicked off with a grind this morning (Sept. 11).
The Hope Hustle started bright and early at 7 a.m. This is Hope’s version of the Grouse Grind, that can take your breath away.
The race went up the Hope Lookout Trail at the base of Mount Hope, and participants climbed 445 m over 1.7 km to the lookout bench.
While they’re sweating it out, parade goers will be getting ready for the Brigade Days Grand Parade. That begins along Wallace Street at 11 a.m. and winds its way through town to the fairgrounds.
Find a spot to watch it go by, and remember to distance from others for safety.
The Food Truck Alley, midway and Trade Parade are all in a free entry zone for the weekend, with tickets required for the rides via Shooting Star Amusements. Tickets are available online at www.brigadedays.com for each day, for the motor sports events and the beer gardens.
Today there is also a Winadzis Workshop, led by Indigenous artist Simon Winadzis, featuring a community wood carving station and storytelling. That begins at noon and runs until 4 p.m. on Saturday only.
Live music in the beer gardens runs from 9 p.m. to midnight.
