Concerts in the Park kicks off this Friday (July 1) in Memorial Park at 6:30 p.m.

First on the stage is the Gale Force Blues Band. They’ll play until 8:15 p.m.

The Gale Force Blues is a six-piece band that has been on the Vancouver music scene for the past 15 years, playing modern Chicago-style blues as well as Classic Rock and R&B.

It’s just one of many events taking place on Canada Day.

Opening ceremonies, including the singing of O’Canada and the official flag raising will begin at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park.

The Canada Day Car Show will fill the park with people and their favourite vehicles at 10 a.m. as well.

Events at 6th Avenue Park begin at 4 p.m., with food trucks, a beer garden, axe throwing, live music and inflatables. If weather allows, the night will be capped off with a technicolour display of fireworks, beginning at 10:05 p.m.

Other events include the Hope Farmers Market from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Wallace Street.

Mountainview Brewing Co. has a concert on the patio. The Bobby’s will play at 7:30 p.m. and False Flags, a punk rock band featuring local talent, play at 8:30 p.m.
