Coming to the O’Connor Group Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from July 4 to Aug. 3 is The Way We See It, an exhibit featuring Chilliwack artists Zidonja Ganert, Greg Laxton-Ekberg and Vickie Legere.
Their choice of visual mediums is vastly different: Ganert primarily paints in a nostalgic style, Laxton-Ekberg paints with a whimsical, ‘posterized’ style, and Legere photographs both the marvelous and the mundane.
“I consider my paintings exercises in colour, contrasts and composition,” says Laxton-Ekberg. “My images often use severe cropping or a different angle of view in order to try and make the observer examine them more closely. I have eclectic taste in subject matter and I will paint anything that I think will interpret well graphically.”
“Inspiration for my art comes from the world around me, both near and far,” says Ganert. “I create landscapes, floral studies and portraits, experimenting with different techniques to create a mood and will introduce the unexpected when a particular image suggests it.”
“As a visual artist, photography is the medium I use for creative expression – allowing me to see the marvelous in the mundane, the magic in a moment and then share my vision with the viewer,” says Legere.
The Way We See It runs July 4 to Aug. 3 in the Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Opening reception is Saturday, July 6 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
