Pickup truck crashes into Chilliwack courthouse steps

Pickup truck careened up and over staircase and hit courthouse flagpole

A red pickup truck crashed through traffic downtown Chilliwack Monday morning (Feb. 10), and landed on the steps of the Chilliwack courthouse.

The crash sheared off a flag pole and left the vehicle perched on the cement base.

Emergency responders were called to the scene outside the Chilliwack Law Courts, at the intersection of Yale Road and Young Road just before 11 a.m.

Onlookers rushed to the scene to deliver first aid, and one person was left in the care of paramedics.

Chilliwack resident Katrine Demers said in a post that it was her husband who suffered a medical emergency and crashed.

"So everyone knows my husband was the driver and he blacked out while driving. He is OK and so is our puppy."

At least three vehicles were involved, including one parked car.
