Twenty "exceptional" Chilliwack-Hope residents have been honoured by MP Mark Strahl with King Charles III Coronation Medals.

“The King’s Coronation Medal offers a meaningful way to recognize individuals from across Canada who have made a difference,” Strahl said, via a press release on March 18. “Today, in my capacity as their Member of Parliament I was proud to present these medals to these outstanding constituents in my riding of Chilliwack-Hope."

The recipients are Aaron Pete, Allan Hunt, Barry Dodd, Chris Kloot, Connie Stam, Derek Epp, Johannes Mulder, Kevin Estrada, Kirk Dzaman, Lawrence Sigurdson, Leilani Krajnyak, Marilyn Ann Vik, Marlene Dance, Nicholas Bolton, Paul Dekoning, Richard Procee, Robert Hasell, Sarah Sache, Shannon Jones, and Trevor McDonald.

“Chilliwack-Hope is blessed with exceptional people who want to give back to the communities that have given them so much," Strahl added. "Congratulations to each one of them on receiving this honour.”

MPs were each able to nominate 20 individuals from their communities to receive the medal. Strahl said he sought and received hundreds of nominations for the award from the community.

The 20 Chilliwack and Hope residents are among 30,000 who have been awarded the medal. People could be nominated by some of the dozens of partner organizations, including provincial governments, RCMP, and the Canadian Armed Forces.

The medal was approved by the King and manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint. It is attached to a ribbon featuring dark blue, bright red and white stripes, identical to the United Kingdom’s Coronation Medal ribbon.
