Zeeshan Khan has announced he is the candidate for the Chilliwack-Hope riding in the upcoming federal election.

Khan posted the information to his personal Facebook page Wednesday evening (April 2).

Khan is a community leader involved in many grassroots initiatives. His Facebook announcement mentioned the struggles he and his wife have faced.

"Thirteen years ago in April, Gulrukh and I made one of the hardest decisions of our lives," he said. "We left behind our careers, our family, and our friends—all in search of a better future. With three small kids, we arrived in Canada with nothing but hope, determination, and the will to start from scratch."

"The journey was never easy," he continued. "There were struggles, sacrifices, and moments of doubt. But through it all, the greatest gift has been the people we met along the way. From stepping into a community where we knew no one, today, we are surrounded by hundreds of incredible friends who have become our family."

He said he is "humbled and honoured" to be the Liberal candidate under Mark Carney.

"My community projects in Chilliwack stand as a testament to my vision of bringing people together, fostering inclusivity, and strengthening the bonds that make our community so special," he said. "I firmly believe that people need to know how much you care before they care how much you know. And those who know me, know that I genuinely care about others."

He called out to local supporters to run the campaign with "dignity, kindness, empathy, and hard work."

The announcement comes days after a gaffe that led to the wrong candidate being announced for Chilliwack-Hope. An announcement had been sent to Liberal supporters announcing that Jake Sawatzky, 25, had been acclaimed. The following morning, a press release announced a mistake had been made and that a local candidate was still being acclaimed.

While Khan has announced he is the candidate, no press release has been sent from the Liberal Party. Parties have until April 9 to confirm their candidates with Elections Canada.
