Over $11,000 raised during Sunshine Valley Car Show

A steady crowd throughout for car show

It was a day full of merriment as hundreds of people showed up for the third annual Sunshine Valley Car Show last Saturday (Aug. 10) and raised over $11,000 for the Sunshine Valley Community Centre.

“Thank you to all who volunteered, attended, displayed, sponsored or supported the 3rd Annual Sunshine Valley Classic Car Show,” said the Sunshine Valley Community Recreation Society via Facebook. “We had record car entries and attendees - and from the feedback a good time was had by all. Special thanks to the volunteers who gave of their time for their community. We raised over $11,000 that will go directly towards improvements and operations at the Community Centre, and more than the (much needed) money was the community spirit and togetherness.

“Special appreciation to our sponsors - 360 Fabrication Inc., Sunshine Valley Developments, 3k Professional Services, the Fraser Valley Regional District, the Province of BC, Hope Standard, and Rock 101.”

Car enthusiasts and Beach Boys fans joined together for an afternoon of fun, at the Sunshine Valley Community Centre (SVCR), as they listened to great tunes and got to see 122 cool-looking cars.

From 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., the free-to-enter event gave fans a chance to fawn over an enssemble of cars that ranged from vintage classics, high performance muscle cars, and powerful hot rods.

In addition to the cars, the crowd also pulled out their lawn chairs to hear the surf-rock music of California Surf, a tribute band to the Beach Boys featuring former long-time Beach Boys’ band members Bobby Figueroa, Ed Carter, Randell Kirsch, Probyn Gregory and Debbie Shair.

Other musical performances included Steve Elliot as Elvis and the Venus and Mars band.
