Hundreds of cyclists are set to hit the roads this weekend in B.C.’s biggest cycling fundraiser.
The Tour de Cure raises money for the B.C. Cancer Foundation and event organizers want to get the word out for drivers to take care on the roads.
“Motorists are urged to keep roadways safe as over 1,500 cyclists participate in the annual Tour de Cure," notes a release about the event.
The charity bike ride, presented by Wheaton Precious Metals, starts on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds and ends in Hope.
The Tour de Cure operates on a two-day format. On day one (Aug. 24), cyclists depart from the Cloverdale Fairgrounds at 7:25 a.m. and travel along two different routes—one is 100 kilometres and the other is 160 kilometres—before ending at Chilliwack Heritage Park, where they’ll camp out for the night.
On Day two (Aug. 25), riders leave Chilliwack Heritage Park between 7 - 8 a.m. "with riders departing in waves" and bike one 100-kilometre route to Hope Memorial Park.
The charity event has raised more than $124 million for cancer research over the years, with $8 million raised in 2023.
According to the release, “The funds raised support advancing breakthroughs and innovation across BC Cancer’s world-class centres and research programs."
