Editor,

Hope and Area Transition Society does not have an infinite amount of resources. It’s always a tragedy that people are reduced to being stuck on the streets, but HATS did not put them there.

Some of the workers from there are the most helpful, caring, and compassionate people I have ever come to know.

They are not responsible for the lack of resources available to them; they have limited funding, limited space and they can only help so many people at one time.

They are a not-for-profit organization that aids in not only supports and mental health, but personal well-being, housing and even personal phone calls to check in.

Some of the people that work at HATS even go above and beyond outside of their working hours to help kids struggling in our community, providing dinners and food, emotional support, and even transportation.

It’s a burning shame that they are getting this bad rep. I don’t agree with it one bit and implore everyone to support our local programs.

They are doing the best they can with what they have.
