Editor,

Seeing the elderly and the crippled leaning on their canes and bracing themselves with the wall, with no overhang to keep them dry — standing, struggling — waiting for the doors to open at our first-come first-served medical walk-in clinic saddens me.

I too, and my wife, know the pain and the humility firsthand. For four years now, since we’ve been living here, this situation has remained unchanged.

Why is there still no bench for the people who have difficulty standing and why is there no awning to keep them dry?

It’s shameful. Hope should be better than that, but it’s not.
