What’s in a pronoun?

How are we to know what pronouns to use these days?

No wonder the kids are confused! I am confused, as I’m sure some other Hope Standard readers are also. The front page story of the March 7 paper shows a picture, of what, to all intents, appears to be a woman.

Why, then is this person then referred to throughout the story, as he? Is this a male person in female clothing? If ‘born female in a male body’, and therefore deciding to be female, shouldn’t one then refer to this person as she?

Is there some special formula for decoding the new genders? Does anyone know? Does anyone care? Help some of us older folks out in understanding the proper nomenclature.

Perhaps we should just discard all gender specific pronouns from the English language and just refer to other folks as ‘it’?
