A monster once again roams Hope as the crew for the independent feature film Krypto shoots in town.
Since Monday (Oct. 3), the crew for Krypto has been filming in downtown Hope on Wallace Street. According to Josh Huculiak, a producer for Krypto, the team will be in Hope until Sunday (Oct. 9) and spend their final week of shooting back in Agassiz.
“It’s sort of like a genre, sci-fi, little bit horror,” said Huculiak, during a break in filming on Tuesday (Oct. 4). “There’s a monster in the film…[and] there’s kind of a supernatural element to the film.”
Krypto is directed by Kourtney Roy, a Canadian director and photographer, and it is her first feature film. According to the Goodbye Productions website, the movie focuses on a veterinarian searching for a missing monster hunter — a journey that will ultimately put her on the “scent of a local legendary creature.”
“Kourtney visited Hope and always found the location beautiful. And there was always this hope that [she] could film in Hope,” said Huculiak. “We shot here, and Agassiz, and Manning Park, and Sunshine Valley.”
News of Krypto was first reported in late-September by the Agassiz-Harrison Observer when the team was spotted filming there. According to Huculiak, Krypto — which is a play on the word ‘cryptozoology’ — is a working title that will likely change during marketing and promotion of the film.
Hope has been a popular filming location for many productions, the most famous being Rambo: First Blood. Other movies include Antlers, Hope Springs, and A Dog’s Way Home. It is also the filming location of Highway Thru Hell which focuses on a heavy vehicle towing and recovery company in Hope.
