ORIGINAL: 1:45 p.m.

A grass fire has closed the Coquihalla Highway in both directions, just south of Merritt, on Saturday, Aug. 10.

The blaze, which started as a vehicle fire, is 0.5 hectares in size and considered "held," according to BC Wildfire Service.

DriveBC says motorists should expect "major delays" for about 36 kilometres between Larson Hill and Merritt, due to the incident.

The provincial road service added that the closures are a result of a vehicle fire at Comstock Road, which was first reported at around 1:30 p.m.

There is no estimate on when the highway could reopen.
