Residents drive past fire crews as they return to Logan Lake on Aug. 19, a week after the community was evacuated because of the Tremont Creek wildfire. The fire and community are featured in The Test documentary.

A free documentary screening will showcase the importance of communities engaging with FireSmart practices.

The District of Hope FireSmart (FireSmart Hope) will host a screening of The Test on Jan. 24 at the Hope & Area Recreation Centre. Starting at 7 p.m., the documentary focuses on the community of Logan Lake who became a “pioneer of FireSmart practices and how those efforts protected their town when the Tremont Creek Fire threatened in 2021.”

“This is your chance to hear from experts and ask your burning questions about what you can do to safeguard your own property against wildfire damage,” said FireSmart Hope on their Facebook page. “We have a great panel booked and refreshments will be provided!”

The Tremont Creek Fire was discovered on July 13, 2021, and had grown to 43,773 hectares. Due to its size and aggression, the 2,000 residents of Logan Lake were placed on evacuation orders on Aug. 12, 2021. By the end of August 2021 the fire was held and residents were allowed to return.

Tickets are free, but limited, and can be booked at: www.eventbrite.com/e/the-test-free-documentary-screening-and-firesmart-panel-tickets-1081079009419?aff.
