The Fraser-Cascade School District has appointed a new secretary-treasurer.
Gerry Slykhuis is the former secretary-treasurer of the Chilliwack School District and will assume his new position at SD78 effective at the beginning of 2023.
“Although I had planned to start my retirement in January, the opportunity with the Fraser-Cascade School District was too good to pass up,” Slykhuis stated in a release dated Nov. 21. “The district has a great team and board, and I look forward to working with them.”

Slykhuis replaces current secretary-treasurer Ken Mackie, who will be retiring this December.
SD78 board chair Linda Kerr said Slykhuis has an “exceptional reputation that balances fiscal management, leadership, and outstanding relationships throughout the system.”
“Having Gerry join us to lend his considerable broad-based expertise will be of great benefit for our district,” stated superintendent Balan Moorthy.
