Do have an electronic device that you’re no longer using? A laptop, computer, cellphone or any other device that could be re-homed?
Until Oct. 18, the EmpowerEd Support Services Society (formerly known as the Read Right Society) will be collecting old electronic devices and refurbishing them for those in need in the Hope community.
“There are many students in our town that don’t have access to a computer at home. This makes doing homework next to impossible,” said Magnus DuBeau, the owner of Hope Computers, via email. Hope Computers will be repairing the donated devices. “And with computer access, our elder members can keep their independence by doing their bills at home, and can stay in contact with friends and family.”
Working with Hope Computers, RONA, Hope Rotary Club, and the Hope Lions Club, EmpowerEd is accepting new, old, or even broken devices. This includes: computers, laptops, monitors, gaming consoles, e-watches, and cellphones.
Hope Computers will provide new storage drives, and parts as needed, and will delete or destroy all data on the donated devices.
The items can be donated directly to EmpowerEd, at their office, or they can call DuBeau, at 778-539-8460, to schedule for it to be picked up for free.
Additionally, DuBeau and EmpowerEd are also providing free classes on computer use, internet security, anti-scam protection, and anti-bullying to those interested. For more information about these classes, readers can contact EmpowerEd or DuBeau.
“(By donating), people that are disadvantaged can have access to office software, email, and everything our modern world requires,” DuBeau said. “Be a force for change right here in Hope and help make our community the one you want to live in!”
