Hope Skating Club reenacts movie magic during annual show

Over 40 skaters skated their hearts out during the The Hope Skating Club's annual show

The Hope Skating Club’s (HSC) annual end-of-year show once again brought smiles and plenty of cheers as skaters showed off their best moves.

HSC’s 41 skaters “brought down the rink” on Friday and Saturday (March 7 and March 8) with their “Lights, Camera, Skate!” show at the Hope Recreation Centre’s ice rink. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, over a 100 people were dazzled by the 22 "movie magic on ice" performances which showcased each skaters' talents.

This year's theme was centred around songs from movies and everyone — from Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, StarSkate 1 to StarSkate 2 — amazed all with their choreography. The show had three duo performances, nine group performances, and seven solo performances. And some of the songs skated to included: The Pink Panther theme song, "Eye of the Tiger" (from Rocky), "Danger Zone" (from Top Gun), "Stayin' Alive" (from Saturday Night Fever) and the Beetle Juice theme song.

The seven solo skates were performed by: Zoey Dillon, Cayla O'Handley, Kaylin Kjemhus, Brinley Brocklehurst, Briella Rodney, Emily Earl, and Victoria Craig.

Two guest performances were also done by Elsa Wren and Audrey Allister Ordonez, two skaters from the Cheam Skating Club. Wren skated during Friday's show and is a star 6 figure skater. Ordonez is a Canskate Coach and a Star 9 and Star 10 figure skater. She won the won the Most Competitive Award in 2023 with the North Surrey Skating Club, and participated in the B.C. Winter Games in 2023.

In addition to the skating routines, HSC also held a duck toss and a 50/50 raffle draw.
