Hope’s weekly COVID case count is up slightly in the latest report from the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).
Hope’s local health authority (LHA) counted eight cases in the period of May 2-8, after recording five the week prior. Small numbers count larger in small communities, and Hope’s sits at 10.1 to 15 cases per 100,000 people.
That’s third worst among the six categories presented by the BCCDC.
The last time Hope had a completely clear case count in a BCCDC report was the week of March 14-20.
Hope’s nearest neighbor to the west saw a drop in COVID cases. Agassiz had just one this week after having 10 the week before.

Chilliwack held steady, increasing by just one case, from 88 to 89. Chilliwack averages between 10.1 and 15 cases per 100,000 people.
It’s a mixed bag of good and bad news the further west you go.
Mission has moved into hot spot territory after experiencing a spike in cases. That LHA jumped from 63 to 89 cases and averages 20-plus cases per 100,000 people.
Abbotsford’s COVID case count dropped, from 498 to 409, but that LHA joins Mission in the BCCDC’s hot spot category.
Langley saw a sharp decrease from 225 to 161. Surrey dropped as well, from 1671 to 1409, but continues to be the provincial leader in COVID cases by volume. Neighbouring Delta continues to be a hot spot as well despite seeing COVID cases fall from 220 to 169.
The only other true hot spot remaining in the province is the small community of Golden as other areas like Peace River North and South and Fort Nelson slowly get their numbers under control.
