Magnus DuBeau is running as a candidate for the District of Hope byelection in April.
"I want to announce that I am proudly registered and running for city council this byelection, to replace Zachary Wells," DuBeau said via Facebook. "I have lived in this community for almost five years, and while that may be a short amount time to some, for myself I have been able to accomplish a lot. From the many committees and boards I sit on, to the clubs and groups that I proudly serve, I have been able to integrate myself and become a larger part of this community."
DuBeau announced that he would be running for council on March 1. The position was originally filled by Wells and became available after he resigned, on Feb. 3 due to his business requiring more time and commitment from him.
DuBeau is the owner of Hope Computers, a business that fixes and installs personal devices, home network, printers, security, cabling and game consoles. He is also a member of the Hope Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Hope.
"I am always supporting our local businesses, or giving back to our community through charitable donations and volunteerism every week," DuBeau said. "I believe in this town enough to bet my future here as a new owner of a retail shop in town, that provides local services rather than appeal to tourism.
"Moving here was the best decision of my life. If you know me, then you know my platform is to 'Build the Community you Want to Live in' which I practice Every. Single. Day. Let's build it together."
Potential candidates must have a nomination application submitted by March 21.
The byelection is taking place in April: General Voting Day will be on April 26; Advanced Voting will be on April 16 and April 23
