Nate Brown running for Hope byelection

Byelection is taking place to fill in spot left by former Coun. Zachary Wells

Nate Brown is running as a candidate for the District of Hope byelection in April.

"I care about Hope," Brown said via Facebook. "I care about the people that live here. I believe we have so much more to offer the world. I also believe in serving your community. Being a part of the council and being trusted to help guide this town would be an incredible honour. And I think it would be an amazing way to give back to a community that has given us so much."

Brown announced that he would be running for council Tuesday night (March 11). The position was originally filled by now-former Coun. Zachary Wells and became available after he resigned, on Feb. 3, due to his business requiring more time and commitment from him.

Brown is the assistant trails director for the Hope Mountain Centre for Outdoor Learning (HMCOL). He moved to Hope 17 years ago, with his wife, Martha Brown, and eventually joined HMCOL to "work at maintaining and building hiking trails throughout the area." He also helps with HMCOL's educational programs and community outreach.

He is excited to connect with everyone and speak about his candidacy.

"We (Martha and Nate) love it here and have worked hard at being a part of the community," Nate said. "I really believe in the work the Mountain Centre does to connect people with their environment. And I really hope to be able to bring that perspective to the council.

"There is so much more I could say, and so much more I want to say. I hope I will have many opportunities to get my ideas and thoughts out there. I will be looking forward to speaking with many of you. I will be looking for opportunities to meet with the public and speak about my candidacy."

As of present, Brown will be running against Magnus DuBeau for council.

Potential candidates must have a nomination application submitted by March 21.

The byelection is taking place in April: General Voting Day will be on April 26; Advanced Voting will be on April 16 and April 23.
