More than 125 people took part in a cycling fundraiser for Ruth and Naomi’s Mission in Chilliwack on Saturday.
The seventh annual Ride For RAN rolled along Vedder Rotary Trail and even up Chilliwack Lake Road on Sept. 16 to raise money to help launch an outreach program.
“This will help us be able to bring on two full-time staff (for the new program),” said Scott Gaglardi, executive director with RAN. “We have an outreach van that we’ll be able to connect with some of our city’s most vulnerable who are outside of services already provided to build relationships, connect with them, and help connect them to services.”
As of Saturday morning more than $80,000 had been raised. Money was still coming in that day as some cyclists registered on the day of the event.
About 50 volunteers and 130 cyclists took part. Most participants rode the 20-kilometre, family-friendly trail ride. There was also a more competitive street ride up Chilliwack Lake Road called Conquer the Climb which featured an 80-kilometre route and a 40-kilometre ride.
