As with many flags around the world, flags throughout Fraser-Cascade School District 78 will be lowered to honour the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

“We are saddened to announce the passing of Queen Elizabeth II this morning,” school board chair Linda Kerr and superintendent Balan Moorthy wrote in a joint statement. “As Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada and the Commonwealth, she will be remembered as the longest reigning monarch in British history.”

School district officials also relayed the words of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who called The Queen “a constant presence in our lives.”

The Queen died on Thursday morning at the age of 96.
